BOTH Helps a Leading Global Pharmaceutical Company’s Wuxi Project Achieve 2 Million Safe Work Hours

2026-09-14

Supporting safe, efficient, and high-quality project delivery through systematic safety management and modular innovation.

A leading global pharmaceutical company’s Wuxi project, with BOTH participating in its construction, recently reached the milestone of two million safe work hours. This achievement reflects the project’s sustained safety performance and the shared commitment to safety of the client, BOTH, and project partners. For BOTH, safety is a core principle embedded throughout project planning, design, manufacturing, construction, and delivery.

Safety Comes First in Everything We Do

BOTH is committed to becoming one of the safest companies in the industry.

At BOTH, health, safety, and the environment take priority in every decision. We put leadership accountability for safety into practice, building a safety culture founded on putting safety first, prioritizing prevention, and taking a comprehensive approach to safety management.

At the Wuxi project, BOTH integrates safety management throughout project execution, using structured management tools to bring risk identification and control forward. These include:

Project Safety Plan (PSP)

Hazard identification and risk assessment

Permit-to-Work (PTW) system for high-risk activities

Pre-Task Planning (PTP)

Identifying, assessing, and controlling risks before work begins helps reduce on-site uncertainty and strengthen safety controls in a complex construction environment.

Modular Solutions Bring Safety Planning Upstream into the Factory

Safety management extends beyond the construction site. Engineering solutions can also reduce risks at source.

On this project, BOTH adopted an innovative modular solution, transferring selected activities traditionally performed on site to factory prefabrication and integration. Manufacturing, assembly, and quality inspections are completed in a more standardized, controlled environment before the modules are transported to site for installation.

This approach reduces on-site work and simultaneous activities across trades, helping mitigate risks associated with work at height, work in restricted spaces, and complex site conditions.
Modular delivery also brings benefits across safety, schedule, and quality:

Safety: Less on-site work and fewer overlapping activities across trades enable risks to be identified and controlled earlier.

Schedule: Factory prefabrication proceeds in parallel with site construction, reducing on-site installation work, improving construction efficiency, and strengthening schedule control.

Quality: Completing more manufacturing and assembly in a controlled environment improves quality consistency through standardized processes, in-process inspections, and factory quality controls.

Modular delivery is therefore more than a change in construction methods. It is a practical way for BOTH to integrate safety, quality, and schedule considerations into engineering design and project execution.

Safety Requires Everyone’s Participation

Technology can reduce risk, but safety depends on everyone’s active participation.

Throughout construction, BOTH uses safety training, site supervision, targeted inspections, and third-party safety audits to strengthen the ability of employees and partners to identify risks and work safely.

We also extend safety management requirements to subcontractors and other value chain partners. Common standards and ongoing supervision help maintain a safe working environment across the project site.

Behind two million safe work hours is the daily commitment to safety of every person working on site.

Driving Continuous Improvement Through a Globally Integrated EHS Management System

BOTH is progressively establishing a globally integrated Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) management system, with practices aligned with the requirements of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.

The system covers employees, subcontractors, and value chain partners. Consistent management standards help promote consistent safety performance across project sites, countries, and teams.

BOTH will continue to use management systems, digital tools, and modular construction methods to further embed safety requirements into engineering design, project management, and construction execution, reducing risks at source.

Two Million Safe Work Hours: A Milestone and a New Starting Point

This milestone is the result of the project team’s collective efforts and demonstrates BOTH’s safety culture and engineering capabilities in practice.

From systematic EHS management to modular construction, and from risk prevention to process control, BOTH continues to explore how management and technical innovation can make project delivery safer, more efficient, and more reliable.

Two million safe work hours is not the finish line. We will continue working toward our goal of becoming one of the safest companies in the industry—so that everyone returns home safe and well, just as they arrived.
